Devlog 0.5

Hello everyone!

ImJustDoingThings is once again busy working on the programming for our project so the head artist is writing this week's devlog!

This week has been rather stressful however, we have gotten a lot done despite that.

What has been completed this week:

  • We fixed the issues mentioned last time.
  • A new Sol overworld sprite has been added.
  • A title image has been added.
  • The enemies actually fight back now instead of dying of cowardice.
  • Improved encounter generation has been implemented.
  • Running away has been added.
  • A lot of bug fixes in general
  • You now return to the overworld in the position you left off in.

Started stuff:

  • Started the cantrip charges system.
  • Set up groundwork for spells system.

And now the part you were all waiting for...today's lore drop!!

Avery has a variety of apprentices that come from all walks of magehood and they all are, surprisingly to some, treated very well by them. In fact, they are all there of their own free will due to how many benefits there are to being one of Avery's apprentices.  These benefits range from having your medical bills completely covered to unlimited bathroom breaks. Even though they are required to serve Avery as well, along with being an apprentice, which usually involves doing comically evil activities, they don't particularly mind. They aren't necessarily required to fight Sol, but they do so out of their own free will in order to protect their master and a chance at getting a raise. After all, Avery has taught them all wonderfully evil spells they wouldn't have known without Avery's wonderfully evil teachings.  Some are destruction mages while others are healers, all of varying elemental capabilities.

"How are my apprentices supposed to formulate evil plans if the are to busy dealing with... Eugh... Insurance?!" - Avery E. Veil, Archmage

Other enemies also appear with not much lore other than Avery being bored or wanting a body guard but not wanting to go through the trouble of finding an adequately evil knight. These enemies include things like the golem and animated armor that will show up in future iterations.

One final note...as the origami swarm is supposed to be intentionally annoying, they only do one damage per turn each. They are meant to feel like an insult essentially.

Thank you for your continued interest in our game!!
